How long should I let my tank cycle when I have filter media from an existing tank and 1/4 water from that same tank?

Top Comment: I'd do the swap immediately. Without a constant ammonia source, the bacteria will die. You can of course add in ammonia for some time before, but if the filter is established, you're good to add fish. You should test often afterwards to ensure things are going as planned. I've done this hundreds of times including every time I come home with new fish. My quarantine tank is empty. I just drain from the tank above, move a sponge filter over, and plug in the heater. Never had issues. This is also done with new tanks, when I moved, and replacement of upgrades.

Russian secret Burlak tank allegedly leaks via social media

Main Post:

Russia is developing an advanced version of its secret main battle tank with a new turret and gun under the Burlak program, according to military expert Alexey Khlopotov.

There was little in the way of updates on this project until last Wednesday when alleged photos of the Burlak tank with a modified turret surfaced on social media.

The Burlak program, which began in 2005, was aimed to replace Soviet-era main battle tanks with a common design by 2025. But due to financial problems, the project was frozen indefinitely.

The thought of old people trying to ban teens from anything technology related is hilarious.

What filter media do you use? Do you use activated carbon? Why/why not?

Main Post:

I just got a 3-stage canister filter for my 55G FW planted. Debating whether or not I want to use activated carbon. Right now I'm not, but I was with the old HOB filter. Lots of differing opinions out there on AC. What say you, redditors? And what is your chosen filter media (for those with canister filters in FW planted setups)?

Top Comment: I have an XP3 canister on my discus tank. Along with the regular sponges, I use Seachem matrix, API bio-stars (came with the filter) and purigen. In HOB filters (like Aquaclear), I usually use bio media discs or matrix, but I do not use carbon. I only use that when I need to remove meds from the water.
